If you have a car that has exceeded 75,000 miles, the high mileage oil is better because it is made to better bond to engine parts, reducing friction.

high mile oils are supposed to have aditives that help the seals in the engine seal better. I ran high milage oil in my sl2 to help with oil consumption, but it didn't help at all. If you want the best oil for your car, then only run synthetic.

High mileage oils are worth it if you have a car that is running well at about 100k miles. Also, if your car doesn't use up oil during regular use, a synthetic could be recommended.

Really they are usually just a gimmick. Just use the correct weight oil and change it at the right intervals. If you want the best oil use a pure synthetic type of oil and a quality filter.

High mileage oils are in the same boat as gasoline grades: unless you specifically need premium in your gas tank, there is no reason to use it instead of regular unleaded. The same applies for high mileage oils. Unless you have a great reason as to why you need a special oil, the mid-range oils are sufficient.
