I used to own a black lab. He ate a lot but we always had to restrict his eating because some dogs will eat till their stomachs burst. Usually we'd feed him 2 bowls a day. And in one we'd mix in the yoke of an egg to give his coat a nice shine.

Read the instructions found on any bag or can of dog food. Find out how much does your weighs, and follow the package instructions. Do not supplement these feedings with table scraps. An occasional dog treat would be fine if your dog is behaving well or feeling a little hungry.

Feeding a dog is based on weight, not breed. If you buy a high quality food (ie - not a grocery store brand like Purina, foods like that have by-product, so make sure you check the ingredients!), it will give you serving sizes based on weight on the back. A good estimate is around 3 or 4 cups per day.

This will depend on the age of the dog. When he or she is still a puppy, like 5-10 lbs, you may feed him 1-2 cups a day. When he is 15-20 lbs., you can feed him 2-3 cups a day. When he is 20+ lbs., you can start feeding him 4-6 cups a day.

How much you feed a dog really depends on the dog's size, activity level and the quality of food you feed it. A 60 lb. dog would require about two cups twice a day of a good quality food while it might take twice that much of a poor grade food.
