How much cleaning should you do before you give away used baby items?

Just make sure the baby items are clean for the eye. Use some soap or detergent and always rinse thorough with water. But only clean if really needed, detergents can be harmful too. If spots are still visible after cleaning it will not harm anybody otherwise you would have been able to clean the baby item.

For clothes and sheets, I would make sure they are freshly washed in the washing machine. For toys I would clean them with lysol to ensure there are no germs on them.
