The number of forms of poetry is very large, across many languages and new forms arise all the time. The most common are sonnet, haiku, ballad, free verse, ode, limerick, parody, clerihew, which describe whole poems. There are also adjectives to describe types of poetry like epic, romantic, alliterative, historical, classical, symbolist.

There are 51 types of poetry! However the most common 12 are Sonnet, jintishi, sestina and villanelle, pantoum, rondeau, tanka and haiku, ruba'i, sijo, ode and ghazal.
