weight loss

Question by  jevitiz (142)

How many calories a day should you eat to lose weight?

I am a female.

If you are 10-90 lbs overweight, 1200 calories is the minimum required assuming you are in a coma and do not move. If you eat too little, you will actually gain fat and lose muscle. Check a BMR calculator to see what "too little" is for you.

Your daily caloric intake depends on things such as height, weight, gender, and activity level. There are several free internet calculators which will let you input this information to determine your "break even" caloric level. Once you have that level, you should aim for your net caloric intake (after exercise) to be 500-1000 calories under this level each day.

First, you have to check what your BMR (Basal Metabolic Rate) is. Your BMR shows how many calories you naturally lose throughout the day. In order to lose weight, you have to take in less calories than you burn. This way, you burn more than you take in, and that creates a deficit, thus creating weight loss.

Aim for about 1200 to 1500 calories a day to lose weight at a safe rate and yet have a balanced diet that provides the required nutrition to maintain health and not get bored. Restricting intake too much leads to falling off the diet before your goals are met. Take a calcium, magnesium, vitamin D supplement to maintain bone.

To determine your daily calorie intake, you should chose your desired weight, multiply that by 10 and then there you go, that is how many calories you should consume and keep consuming to maintain that weight. For example lets say I want to wight 120 lbs multiply that by 10 that comes out to 1200 calories a day.

The amount of calories you should eat to lose weight depends on your current weight. You will decrease calories as you lose weight.
