i think it depends on the amount of water applied onto the surface above the root system, it may take upto three weeks for a fully mature root system to establish its boundaries.

If you get a really good growing season it takes about one full growing season to completely establish it self.

Most Ivy's, like any other plant, only needs a few days to begin establishing a tap root. Within a week, possibly two, it should have a somewhat developed system.

This is one of the easiest plants to root. Take a glass of water and put a stem in the water and 5 days it should start a sprout.

It doesn't take English Ivy very long to establish a root system. It establishes rather quickly and within a couple years you may need to trim it back
