As far as I know, misdemeanors are on your record forever, and do not disappear. You can have your records sealed if you apply for and are granted an expungement, but it will still be there.

Your record is your record. There is no statute of limitations, unless one put specifically there by your state's legislature. The best thing to do with a misdemeanor is to try to have it "sealed" so that no one but a court can look at your record. This is not always available as every state has different criteria.

Depending on what kind of misdemeanor you are charged with, will determine how long they can stay on your record. There are several different classes when it comes to dealing with the misdemeanors. The smaller the class, the less time. For instance, if you got a OWI, that could take up to 10years, verse a shoplifting charge could be 5years.

If you have been convicted of a crime and there was not an arrangement for the conviction to drop from your record, the conviction will stay on your record permanently.
