Pregnancy tests measure the amount of a horomone called HCG in your bloodstream or urine. It will continue to show up as positive as long as high amounts of HCG exists. Abortions early in the first trimester may only take several weeks. Abortions later in pregnancy can take longer.

It will take your body anywhere from two to six weeks to stop producing the HCG hormone that results in a positive pregnancy test. If you are unsure the abortion was a success you should get an ultrasound and speak with your doctor to discuss your concerns. You could also contact the office that performed the procedure.

The pregnancy hormone hCG will remain in our system at least for 2-3 weeks even after abortion. So more chance of getting positive since hpt is basically on hCG level.

Not Medical Advice: Hcg stays in the womens system for up to 2 months after an abortion. It is that reason why physicians do not give a pregnancy test after an abortion. Best of Luck.
