Once labor has started it shouldn't stop until all kittens are born, about 1 an hour or so. Can you prod her belly? is it soft with no lumps?

A believe a cat can wait about an hour before giving birth to a litter. I also think it depends on the breed of cat you have between regular domestic and special breed.

A cat can stop labor several hours between kittens and in other situations. This is common and shouldn't be worried about.

Sometimes it can be almost six hours between kitten births, but if she goes for more than ten hours, then you should probably contact a vet or take in your cat in case she is in trouble and the kittens are in distress; both could die if not taken care of.
