Four stroke oil is a little different than conventional oil because it is used in your lawn mowers and other power equipment that is not two stroke. You deffinately don't want to use four stroke in your car because it does not have the same additives as conventional oil does.

Four stroke oil is heavier and has different additives than two stroke oil. It contains detergents used to prevent gunk buildup, and polymers that change it's viscosity depending on the temperature (that's why there's two numbers on the can, like 5w30). It's lighter than heavyweight gear oil, and thus less adhesive.

The difference between all oils is two factors one is whether its a detergent or non detergent oil. In retrospect the only true difference between oil is the viscosity of the oil which is defined as the thickness of oil. Four stroke oil is a thicker oil which makes it longer lasting.

Four stroke engine oil has to be a different consistency than regular or standard oil. Larger engines require a thinner oil because it has to be able to flow through the engine faster and easier than a thicker oil for a smaller engine. Also thicker oils tend to lubricate better.

Four stoke oil has different propertys to protect parts of a four stoke engine. such as waer protection. it also does not need to be mixed wit anything else. A two stoke mixes gas and oil inorder to run and lubricate the engine .

Virtually all motor oils are four stroke oils. The only different oil is the two stroke oil which is blended to stay in suspension better when mixed with gasoline. Even castor oil can be used in a four stroke engine. Castrol used to be made of castor oil.
