Tarantulas are poisonous, but not very dangerous - a bite will be painful similar to a bee sting, but do no lasting harm. The greatest risk from a tarantula bite is if you have an allergic reaction - if you are bitten and feel short of breath afterward, see a doctor. Tarantula hairs can also cause irritation and allergic reactions.

Like every spider species, tarantula spiders have the venom glands. This fluid (venom) is secreted through its salivary gland contains digestive enzyme which turns tissues into liquid which will kill insects, young birds and mice, but only causes swelling and pain in humans. The spider's fangs can produce puncture wounds which can be very painful.

Tarantulas are a type of large spider with over 900 different species found around the world. Although they are frightening to look at and have intimidating fangs, there are no known tarantulas that have a bite deadly to humans.
