Question by  anthonyj (20)

How durable are iron-on transfers?

I was thinking of using them instead of ordering custom T-shirts.

They are good for novelty things that arn't goign to be used a whole lot. But if its somethign you want to wear and wash alot you willwant something more permanant. The Iron-ons tend to start to peel off after multiple washings which will make your gifts not last as long.

Iron-on transfers can last a long time if you follow the directions carefully and do not use high heat if drying them in a dryer.

It depends upon the brand of transfer. It also depends upon the heat you use. A heat press is recommended for transferring the image, instead of a regular iron. A product called "Bubble Jet Set" is recommended for items that you will be washing over and over, such as T-shirts, or even quilts.

Iron on transfers can be durable under good conditions but to keep them looking perfect they must be hand-washed and air dried. Normal wear will start the fray the edges in about 6 months if hand-washing, 1-2 months if machine washing.
