A dog affected with pyometra will generally have an enlarged uterus depending upon how long the uterus has been infected. The pyometra affect is when pus is inside of the uterus. If left untreated the toxins will spead to other organs of the dog and she will eventually die, so if suspected she will need to see a veterinarian.

Pyometra means puss trapped in the Uterus. Dogs with this syndrome will exhibit an engorged uterus. If left untreated, the pyometra syndrome can and will spread to other neighboring organs. At this point, Pyometra will almost always prove to be fatal. If you suspect your dog to have any enlarge organs, take it to the vet right away.

Pyometra is an infected uterus, so the uterus will usually get bigger with the infection. A spay is the best treatment.
