The age progression softwares employ ageing and wrinkling algorithms, commonly found in the field of image processing. A basic algorithm for ageing is * extract the features of a face (SIFT features) of a person after a given interval of age. * employ a machine learning algorithm (SVM) to not the changes in wrinkles. * predict according to the model.

This works a bit similar to face recognition software. Face recognition software finds points in faces that are relevant, e.g. the top of the nose, the mouth corners, ... Now getting older means to get more lines between these points. This information you get by comparing many pairs of pictures.
