The constant hot wire to the connect side between the switch and receptacle, then connect the neutral wire to the receptacle only and the switch leg to the switch only.

brand of devices I use ships with switch set up to control the receptacle, with a break off tab between the screws. There should be 4 screws (plus the green ground) on the strap, 2 for the switch and 2 for the outlet. Break the tab if there is a connection between the switch the outlet, and go from there.

Combination switches are usually attached to a power outlet. Hook up the power oulet like normal, but hook the switch up so it completes another circuit to turn something on.
