It depends on which type you have. In general, you attach (or hold in place) a breast shield. The breast shield will be connected to a collection system, usually a bag or bottom. If you have an electric machine, then you can just turn it on. If you have a manual one then you may need to pump.

It depends whether you have a manual or electronic. Manual you pump yourself, electric is faster. You place the suction part on your nipple and start pumping.

A breast pump should be cleaned thoroughly after buying it from any over the counter stores. It should be sterile before placing it on your breast and start sucking milk. When done, clean it with properly and place inside a plastic ware to avoid accumulation of dust. Pump as much milk as you can.
