How do you treat chiggers?

Are they dangerous if you just leave them alone?

After spending time outdoors if you notice red, raised, itchy bumps under waistbands, sock bands, and under clothing where insects should never be, you likely have chigger bites. They are not dangerous. A home remedy is clear fingernail polish dotted on each bite. Some OTC medications are similar but costly.

Chiggers are mites attaching themselves to skin when biting. To remove them wash affected area with hot soapy water and follow with antiseptic ointment, like Helichrysum oil, which stops the itch very fast. In kids, cut their fingernails to prevent inflammation through scratching. Not a dangerous but highly uncomfortable pest.
