How do you train a Shih-Tzu?

Shih-Tzu's are very active and from my experience hard to train. You just need to be patient and train them the way you train any other dog, but be much firmer in the lessons and perhaps for longer sessions.

You need to find out what motivates your dog. For some it is treats, for others it will be toys or praise. Use this as a reward for good behavior. For example if you are teaching your dog to "sit", give the command then gently push his hindquarters in to a sitting position and reward him.
