How do you serve an Illinois eviction notice?

You can personally serve the eviction notice to your tenant, or give it to someone living in the tenant's home as long as they are 13 years old or older. You can also mail the notice with a receipt, or leave it in front of their door.

Under your fact pattern, ypu can serve an IL eviction notice by (i) certified mail (w/return receipt) or (ii) personal service (handing it to the defendant). It is highly recommended that you get a third party server to complete option (ii), and attest in an affidavit to tenant's receipt. Otherwise, your service may be deemed ineffective by the court.
