There are two ways i know of to reset a ps2. The first and easiest is to simply unplug your ps2 for 5 minutes. the second is to hold in the power button for 10 seconds until it resets.

You should be able to reset it just by holding the power button down for 30 seconds. If you're trying to restore it completely to factory settings and that doesn't work, you can try deleting all the files from the memory card and unplugging it first.

By pressing the power button only once. Do not hold it just press it and it should re-boot right up.

There's a reset button inside the ps2. If you do not want to take the chance to open your machine. Simply go to your nearest video game store like an EB Games and tell them you want to reset it.
