Any major brand name OBD II scanners (for those vehicles 1996 and Newer for the North American Market - worldwide your systems vary) will allow a reset of the engine management computer to OEM, or original specifications. For modifications for better performance (or if you have added an Air Intake), you would want a performance tuner.

The computer in your car is more like a calculator than a PC. It only responds in preset limits according to the readings it recieves from your car's various systems. You can however repalace the "chip" in newer cars for performance chips. But Performance nearly always means inefficient and chipping will often void warrenties. Did I mention its expensive?

The best way to reset a car's computer is to use some kind of scan tool. You can also unhook the battery for a few minutes and that should reset the ecu. However it can also rest other electric devices like the radio and may interfere with a security system. Resetting it should clear any trouble codes.

Most vehicle computers can be easily reset by removing the negative battery cable. By doing so, you're clearing the "learned" data, such as fuel/air mixtures.

The easiest way to reset the computer is to disconnect the battery for a few seconds then reconnect it. This will reset a few other items such as the radio.
