Raccoons, like any other wild animal, are focused on food and shelter. Eliminate any source of food (and water)and they will head for greener pastures. Secure trash cans in a locked pen, and take up pet food and livestock feed that is out in the open.

Safe methods include sprays, fences, and trap, best used in combinations. A product containing the scent of a coyote often works.

First of all, do not leave anything outside that would attract raccoons, such as loose garbage. Make sure that raccoons will not be able to get into your garbage cans. It is also helpful to use something with a strong scent, such as cayenne pepper, to ward off raccoons. Simply sprinkle it around outside your home to keep them away!

Get a Super Soaker and put a small amount of Tabasco in the water. That won't hurt them too badly, but it'll get them to leave and not come back.
