If you locate the file and right click it, it should have an option checked that says Read Only. Uncheck this, and see if that works.

Open Windows Explorer and browse to the folder containing the file. Right click on the file and select properties from the pop up menu. In the properties dialog window at the bottom click the box with the check mark labeled Read Only. Finally click the Apply button at the bottom of the window and then the OK button.

If you are experiencing read only trouble in microsoft office files, no need to confuse with the options given in microsoft office. It can be made to read, write privileges by right clicking the file and unchecking the option read only.
