How do you remove the adware program GAIN from your computer?

Answer by  sakume (131)

GAIN or Gator Advertising Information Network can be removed typically with tools such as AdAware, amongst others as well. To do so manually, one would need to delete certain registry keys from the registry itself then would need to delete the GAIN directory. If you cannot delete this directory because it states it's in use, just simply restart your computer.

In Windows Control Panel, go to Programs/Uninstall a Program. The program should be listed in the programs listing. Click on the program and follow the instructions to uninstall it.

Using Spyware Sweeper is one way to remove gain adware program in your computer. It may also be removed manually, however, it must be done with extreme caution as such will involve modification of the system registry or system files. If the manual removal is erroneously done, the computer may be deemed unusable.

Either purchase a malware detection and removal tool, or reinstall your operating system. It will take too much time to do anything else.

There are several tools out there that will do it for you. One is Spybot Search and Destroy. This will scan your system for known Adware / Malware type programs. If it finds it, it will attempt to remove it from memory. It also has updates so it stays current with the programs.

The best way to remove things like adware from your computer is to run a computer scan using a anti-virus. Then you can find out what and where the adware actually is on your computer and remove it.

Remove the software that was packaged with the GAIN adware by using Add/Remove Programs located in the control panel. Afterwards, use a adware scanner to make sure all traces of the adware are gone from the system.
