How do you remove a popcorn ceiling?

I hate those things. I want mine smooth.

You scrape the popcorn off, and lightly sand to even it out. Don't sand into the paper on the sheetrock. Leaving it smooth probably won't look right, even after you repaint. Use a product called Orange Peel Splatter to add just a slight amount of texture, then prime and paint to finish.

After fully masking the entire living quarter, use a well working spray bottle and spray ceiling or wall with water until damp and moist. Remove by scraping with a wide metal drywall knife, which can be purchased at a building supply store.
