You would boot using a CD or flash drive with formatting utilities installed on it. The reason is this process erases all data on a partition in your hard disk. You would do it to reinstall a clean operating system such as Windows. Caused possibly by a virus infection.

to reformat your computer go to my computer right click on the drive you wish to format and click format now it will pop up with a box. Leave everythind defalt ad click start this will only delet the data used to tell windows whats on the drive to delet everything uncheck quick format. use for reinstalling windows os.
