you can usually take it to a local jeweler, and have them resize it for you. Or take it to the place that the ring was purchased more than likely they will resize it for free, or very inexpensively. When buying any high quality jewelry always buy the warranty, which usually includes resizing, and cleaning.

A gold ring is re-sized by either stretching or compressing the gold to a smaller size. The gold is heated and then pressed into the new shape for the ring. This can also be done with sterling silver. Generally it does not cause harm to the shape of the ring.
