How do you prepare for a electromagnetic pulse?

I assume the government has a plan.

It depends on the magnitude of the pulse and the distance. Basically, the power of the pulse falls of the square of the inverse of the distance from the origin. One way to protect against one that is damaging is to put your sensitive electronics in a metal box.

Store a gallon of water per person, per day. For food source include canned foods and staples- don't forget a can opener. Portable, battery-powered radio or television and extra batteries- which would not be affected by an EMP attack. Flashlight and extra batteries. First aid kit and manual.

Sanitation and hygiene items (moist towelettes and toilet paper),
Matches and waterproof container, a whistle, extra clothing, kitchen accessories and cooking utensils.
Other items to meet your unique family needs.  add a comment

Many military and Cold War era facilities have some protection, because a nuclear weapon releases an EMP (electromagnetic pulse) when it detonates. Thus radiation protection offers EMP protection. For the rest of the nation, the government actually has NO plan. The greatest problem is that the transformer substations will blow, take 18 months to build, and we have no spares.

yes the government does have a plan. They all escape to underground bunkers, stocked with food, and the rest of sizzle away as the Gamma ray scorches the surface.
