You can try to pick the lock with a thin metal piece such as a pin of some sort that is strong and won't break. You can also call a locksmith or cut the lock with bolt cutters.

The safest most direct way would be to call a locksmith. Locksmiths are professionals in opening locks that do not have keys. Many locksmith companies are open 24 hours in case it's an emergency. Of course this would have to be a lock that is your own property. They would not unlock someone else's property for you.

You can attempt to do this with a bobby pin if the lock is older, but new locks are more difficult. Ultimately, you will need a locksmith to unlock it.

I don't suggest anyone try to get into anywhere without a key. For one, even if you live in the house, and someone see's you trying to break in without a key,the cops will be called.But if you absolutely need to get into the place, a credit card or drivers license and jiggle the lock,it eventually clicks the lock.

In a home, you would slide something that is a little flexible into the slim opening between the door and the jamb, such as a credit card. Then you try to push the locking mechanism at the same time pushing on the door.
