Generally, one is somewhat familiar with the destination city because of work, school or friends. Usually relocation involves a couple of trips to find a place to live and/or employment. You can hire a professional moving service to haul your belongings or do the moving yourself with a hired truck, depending on the extent of your possessions.

One way is to give appropriate notice at your job. Notify your landlord at least a month in advance of leaving, or what is appropriate notice for your dwelling. Find a place in the new city to live via the internet. Cancel your utilities and redirect your mail. Hire a U-Haul and be on your merry way.

There are several ways to move. You can hire a moving company to come pack your items and move them for you. You can also rent a truck and pack and move the items yourself. You also need to find a place to live in your new city. Look online for available homes or apartments.

Make sure ALL mail is being forwarded. The postal system seems to have difficultly figuring out where it should go even when a forward request has been submitted. You may also want to change your area code.
