                                                          In a pot, saute 1 cup chopped onions in 1 teaspoon vegetable oil.   Remove from heat. Add 1 pound dried split peas and 1 pound ham bone. Add water to cover ingredients. Add salt and pepper to taste. Cover. Cook 2 hours till there are no peas left, just liguid.
