Heading in word can be created according to the word size and font you prefer. There is an option to change word size and font in the tool bar with the icons on the top right corner. You even have an option to make the heading text in italics, bold, capital and in colour.

It is very easy in Microsoft Word. In latest versions, just double click the top most portion of the page document. After that you will get a splitter which indicates the header. There you can type the matter to create a header. In older versions the option may not be easier like described.

Select the text that you want to make into a heading. Press Ctrl+Alt+1 for heading style 1, Ctrl+Alt+2 for heading style 2 and so on.

The easiest way to create a heading is by clicking on view at the top of your tool bar and click where it says header/footer and then insert your text.
