How do you make a bird feeder for kids?

I would like my grandchildren to help me build a bird feeder and do not know where to begin.

Two large metal coffee cans, a metal pie plate, and a smaller coffee can on top. Punch holes in the smaller coffee can so the bird feed can disperse and glue everything together. The lid on the top can allows you to refill the feeder, and the kids can paint it--voila, lighthouse!

Clean, empty half gallon or gallon milk jugs make great feeders. Cut three inch holes in the sides of the jug about 5 inches from bottom. Fill with bird seed.

You can buy unsweetened cereal come in "O" shapes. Cut a piece of yarn and string the cereal through. When it is long enough, tie ends, tie to a tree.

First you need to saw the wood for the birdhouse. Let them paint the pieces and add decorations to the house. You can use straw for the roof. Trim for window and doors. Buttons etc. Have alot of stuff to let them pick from. Drill a hole in the top so you can hang it. Light weight wood is best.
