An old Nintendo's worst enemy is the dust that it gathers. You can go to your local office store and purchase cans of air to keep this dust at bay. Make sure you keep your can of air complete upright, or you will stain your system or game that's cleaned.

Keep the system and games clean and free of dust. Do not play roughly with the games or controllers in order to preserve the quality. Make sure you don't expose the system or components to extreme heat or cold. If you are really obsessive about cleaning, you can unscrew it and use a Q-tip and cleaning solvents to clean it.

To maintain an old Nintendo, your focus should be to keep as much dust out of the system as possible. Keep the console in open-air environments and off insulators.

First off it's important to keep it in a clean area, don't let it get dusty inside, or outside it.
