If your aging dog no longer responds when you call him or her or doesn't respond to loud noises, such as a car backfiring or dropping a plate, it's possible his or her hearing is deteriorating. This is something that can easily be checked out quite easily by a qualified verterinarian.

When my dog was going deaf we first noticed because she wasn't reacting to loud noises, like a pot hitting the ground if she couldn't see it happening.
