How do you install a stained glass window without getting the putty all over the window itself?

I am having a hard time installing my stained glass window, every time I try I get putty all over my self and the window.

Put the putty on the window and not the window sill is the best way to install any windows especially precious stained glass. I prefer letting a professional do that for me. Stained glass is very expensive and you do not want to break it. Secure the window until it sets and dry.

I think you should try to use a caulk gun while installing the stained glass window. It will give you more control over the putty. Another thought would be to use a ziplock bag and cut a small hole in the corner, making this an affordable option. Better yet hire someone to do it for you.

You should start by putting tape on any areas of the window or sill that you don't want to get putty on. When finish, make sure to clean up any additional putty before it dries.

Try using a compound made especially for stained glass window's. It is called stained glass window compound. Make sure to use only small beads of the compound.

This is an expert's job. The stained glass window will look really horible if putty falls all over it. The best way could be to paste old new papper over the window glass with some not very sticky gum. Once the glass windows are fixed and left for a day, the paper debris can be washed off.
