How do you get rid of hiccups in toddlers?

I can't get him to hold his breath.

The hiccups will eventually stop on their own, even if you do nothing, but there are some tricks that people claim will work. The first is to have him drink water slowly. You can also try putting a little sugar on his tongue. If all else fails you can have him suck a lemon.

Hiccups are not deadly or harmful so just let them run their course. Or you could try giving the child water to drink frequently. Scaring the hiccups out of them would not be a good idea because it could have more side effects than getting rid of hiccups. Gargling salt water helps too.

It may sound wierd, but try puting a paper towel in a glass with water, then have your child drink the water.

There are no known cures for hiccups (though some saying a solution of water and sugar helps), but many things can be done to prevent them.
