How do you get non-profit status?

I want to start a not for profit youth baseball league, but I don't know where to start with getting it approved.

You must file IRS Form 1023 to apply for non-profit status. The application requires a copy of the organization's Articles of Incorporation as well as the bylaws, details of activities, a list of the Board of Directors and copies of all organization communication (newsletters, brochures, pamphlets, etc).

Well, to get non for profit status you have to show that your company is not making a profit. Basically, provide a copy of your income sheet and you have to prove that you are using your expenses for the operation of the business.

It isn't difficult to do, mostly filing paperwork, but the best place to start is to consult an attorney. They can give you the best information available, specific to your location. They can let you know the details that are most frequently missed and help make the process clear and simple.
