The needs of an organization will depend on its size, structure and revenue sources. A larger organization with a bottom-heavy structure, or one with an uneven or erratic funding process is more likely to require more frequent oversight of the board. Many non-profit organizations have either quarterly or yearly board meetings, so monthly meetings are not always necessarily required.

In most instances, no, they do not need to meet monthly but they do need to meet regularly. Whether those meetings are 30 or 60 days apart depends on what is happening in that time.
