How do you germinate plum seeds from plums you have eaten?

Can you just soak them in water?

Unlike some pits, a plum pit will not germinate if soaked in water. If anything, it will rot. After thoroughly cleaning the pit, wrap it in a moist paper towel, and put it in a plastic bag in the refrigerator for a few months. For a plum pit to germinate, it needs 2 to 3 months of cold temperatures.

I believe that the plum seeds cannot be soaked in water to germinate them. I think that to germinate them, I would need to cover them with soil or a papertowel.

If you just ate the plum, you can put the seed in a pot of soil, and wet the soil well. If the soil gets dry, water it. It may take several months, but it should sprout eventually. Then you can keep it in a sunny place.

Generally you can place the seeds in water and soak for one day. You then remove the seeds and put them between a sheet of damp paper towel.
