After the furniture is painted or stained, simply use small sections of sandpaper to rub away the surface and make portions of the furniture appear antiqued. Just don't wear away too much of the surface, or the furniture could end up damaged or visually unappealing.

Some simple tricks that I have seen for distressing furniture is to rub it with light sandpaper and to strike it with light chains.
