If the patient came after an heart attack it can be diagnose by abdominal x-ray may show gas-filled, dilated loops of intestine suggesting the possibility of adhesion. These X-rays will show blockades and other obstacles in intestine. In this case performing laparoscopy will be suitable.

These can sometimes be seen on plain film xrays but usually they need an abdominal cat scan or a small bowel series (xrays where you drink barium so you can see the small intestine clearly).

Adhesions normally occur after surgery. Abdominal adhesions feel like something is "caught" or "snagged" when you bend or twist. If the pain is constant, it may not be an adhesion.
