For most sites you change your screen name by going into profile, applying changes, then verifying by email. With sites like Yahoo you can go into profile and make aliases.

you need to go to account settings and the you go to screen name, new name and then take it from there.

The same way you originally created your current screen name. It depends on which service you used. If it was for instant messenger, go to the official website and create a new name or account.
