How do you copy music off of an iPod?

depends if they are in your itunes library. if not you HAVE to prevent itunes from syncing your ipod. anyhting not in the library will be removed from your ipod.

It's not convenient. Plug in your iPod and look for something that looks like a new hard drive to appear in "My Computer." If you browse through a bit (depends on the model) you'll find a folder with as many songs as you have on your iPod. You can copy them, but the file names will all be odd.
