Plug in an Ethernet cable from one of the slots in the back of the router to the Ethernet port in the back of your computer. If you don't know what an Ethernet cable is it almost resembles a phone jack but slightly larger.

Assuming this is a wireless router then you simply plug the ethernet cable from your modem into the "Internet" port on the router and plug any wired PC into the numbered ports. You can then configure the router from one of the connected computers by access it's IP address. Commonly defaults are 192.168.0.1 and 192.168.1.1

Take an RJ45 or lan cable and connect it to your PC then take another cable and connect it from your modem to the WAN/Internet port on your router.

Start by plugging it in. Connect your Ethernet cable from the modem into the router. Then plug the cable going from the computer into the correct port of the router.
