sand will last many years when added to paint. the thing to remember is to use a good quality paint in an eggshell or satin finish. only add about 1 cup of sand. if you add too much,your paint won't stick. remember that when you add texture,your paint won't go as far.

I would think that it depends on the amount of paint and area you are painting. I used about a cup per gallon and it lasts a fairly long time. Depending on if it will be walked upon or not can last for years at a time. The important thing is to mix it well. 5 to 10 minnutes.
