They have to repair the organ with stiches and also control the bleeding and any damage done to any of the blood vessels. This is an emergency and if not treated can result in the death of the mother and the baby. In the hospital it can be fixed if it is noticed early.

It depends on how extensive the injury was. Most of the time it only requires approximation of the edges of the uterus with sutures and control of bleeding.

A ruptured uterus as a result of childbirth is usually repaired surgically. This is usually performed after birth of the baby. Patients are given a dose of antibiotics and the surgery consists of making an incision in the abdomen and the uterus is lifted out of the patient to establish the extent of the damage and then it is repaired.

Usually when the uterus ruptures a hysterectomy is done. If the rupture isn't too bad it's just stitched back together.

Ruptured uteruses are usually repaired with a sugical incision to the abdomen, called a laparotomy. The surgeon then sews up the torn area of the uterus using sutures.
