If you don't wish, or can't afford an attorney consult your clerks at the court. They are phenomenally knowledgeable and very kind, if approached right. They can guide you through the paperwork and tell you if your county offers free help or advocates. Ask them about income based fee-reduction.

With kids, property and/or assets, get an attorney. If you agree to division of property or have none, you can file it yourself. There are online site that explain how.
