Food is digested into it basic components such as carbohydrates/sugars, proteins (also known as amino acids), and fats. These nutrients are then sent to all the cells in the body where enzymatic processes further break down these components and in doing so generate energy molecules the cell can use.

Living things get energy from the consumption of food and drink by extracting nutrients and metabolizing them. By breaking down food into fats, sugars, carbohydrates, proteins, vitamins, and other compositional elements, your body is able to selectively choose which items and how much of each it needs to function well.
