Unless you have done this before, or know someone who has successfully done this before and they are willing to advise you, you want to seriously consider speaking to a Lawyer. A Lawyer specializing in immigration will be the most knowledgeable and are readily available in most areas.

You should honestly and respectfully state why you believe you should not be deported. Check your grammar, spelling, and sentence structure. Do some research beforehand to see if your reasons are valid. If possible, have an attorney review your letter prior to submission. The appearance of the letter should be neat and professional.

Include descriptions of your employment, family ties, and community service. Provide evidence of good character and hardship to family if you are deported. State how long you have lived here.

Please do not write your own letter to the immigration board. This will not help. Consult an immigration attorney licensed to practice in your state. If you think you cannot afford one, check with your local parish or diocese, even if you are not a Catholic. They may help you.

You must state whether you have been legalized in the state so they can review your standing, unless you've committed crime, I wouldn't write a letter if I were you.
